Independence Community College Theatre will open its 2026–27 season this October with Little Women, Kate Hamill’s fresh and spirited adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s beloved novel.

Directed by Cooper Sivara, the production will run Oct. 8–11 at the William Inge Theatre on the ICC campus. Admission is free.

Based on Alcott’s classic novel, Little Women follows the four March sisters — Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy — as they navigate family, ambition, love, loss and the challenges of growing up. At the center of the story is Jo March, an aspiring writer determined to build a life on her own terms while remaining deeply connected to the family that shaped her.

Hamill’s adaptation brings a contemporary energy to the familiar story while preserving the heart, humor and emotion that have made Little Women resonate with generations of readers and audiences.

"Little Women is a story so many people connect to and appreciate. What drew me to this adaption is that it explores that very idea: connecting to and appreciating the people you care about in the time you share together. Our entire team is exploring how the March sisters, their family, and the people who come into their lives form relationships that mean a great deal to them in the present moment. I believe those kinds of ties can speak across time periods to link with our audiences today."

For the ICC student performers bringing the March family and their world to life, the production also offers an opportunity to explore characters whose hopes and struggles remain relatable more than 150 years after Alcott's novel was first published.

Friday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m.
Sunday, Oct. 11 at 2 p.m.

Admission is free.
