Welcome Veterans

On behalf of the Independence Community College family, we extend our sincere gratitude for your service and sacrifice in defense of our country. We are honored to welcome you to our campus and to the Veteran Student Success Center.

Independence Community College is committed to being a supportive and safe environment for veterans as they transition from military to civilian and academic life. We recognize the unique challenges that may come with this transition, and our dedicated support team is here to assist you every step of the way.

ICC is proud to have been designated as a Purple Heart College by the Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH), a distinction that acknowledges our commitment to supporting veterans and their families. We are also recognized as a Military Friendly School, a testament to our ongoing efforts to create a welcoming and resource-rich campus for military-affiliated students.

Through initiatives such as Green Zone Advocacy Training, our faculty, staff, and student body are gaining a deeper understanding of military culture, helping to foster a more inclusive and familiar campus environment for veterans.

Our goal is to provide you with the highest level of support as you navigate the admissions process and begin your academic journey at ICC. Once again, thank you for your service—and we look forward to the opportunity to serve you.

Our Program

The Center of Excellence for Veteran Student Success (CEVSS)’s mission is to support student veterans in achieving their academic, career, and personal goals.  Made possible by a Department of Education Fund for the Improvement of Post-Secondary Education (FIPSE) grant, the evolving success center at INDYCC serves as a focal point for veteran students focusing on four key areas: 1) recruiting more veteran students and aiding their transition to campus life, 2) increasing their retention and persistency, 3) completing degrees, certificate programs or entering their chosen career fields, and 4) and/or transferring to four-year colleges/universities. With dedicated support staff, the Veteran Student Success Center provides veteran students, currently active, National Guard, Reservists, and military dependents with access to all campus and community support resources that will be key to overcoming any barriers to college success.
